Here at ATC Transport Training we guide you through the entire HGV training process. If you are based in the Midlands, Worcester or Gloucester and would like to do your HGV or LGV training follow the step-by-step structure below and you can’t go wrong:
Please see below, the process we need to go through to obtain your HGV Licence;
Step 1
Book a driver medical.
The drivers medical is a standard medical check which has been put in place to rule out any common illnesses that can affect your LGV driver training (e.g. insulin dependent diabetes, epilepsy, bad eye sight and major heart problems. Unfortunately ATC can’t organise this as it has to be done by an independent company. I would like to recommend using your own GP (make sure you get a quote first as this can be costly).
Otherwise we could put you in contact with the local medical centre who may be able to help for a fee of £49. When attending your medical you will need your D1 application forms with you, we can supply if needed or you can obtain yourself from your local post office. In the unlikely instance you fail the medical you would be entitled to a full refund on any monies paid towards your HGV or LGV training by providing your failed medical forms.
Step 2
Fill in provisional licence forms
At this Stage for you to start any LGV training you will need to obtain a provisional licence form the DVLA. All you need to do is fill in the relevant sections on the D4 form which once again we can supply or you can pick up from your local post office. In normal circumstances you should receive your provisional privileges back from the DVLA within 14v working days.
Step 3
Book and complete your theory test.
To start any practical training you will need to pass a theory test. The theory test will consist of two parts just like your car test (if you took one). There will be a video based hazard perception test and a multiple choice, computer based test.
ATC can provide you with the revision materials if you don’t already have yourself. We have the official DSA hazard perception DVD as well as the official DSA study book to help prepare for the multiple choice test. It is recommended to allow on average 2 weeks revision before taking the theory test.
Step 4
Book your practical training
Once you passed your theory test it’s now time to call us so we can begin booking in your preferred dates for your LGV practical training.
Step 5
Book your practical test
At this stage you will be perfecting the arts of driver a truck and well on your way to your new car
